"Sweet Sorrow"

Parting is such sweet sorrow....or something like that. Well, kind of, at least for us. See, we have moved. After about 20 years in the Swissvale Shopping Center, I am kind of sad to leave. However, the sweet part is being able to once again set up a store - new products, new place, new computers, new shelving, some new people, some new brands - Samsung, LG, Agga, VentAHood - and of course some old reliables - Maytag, GE, Viking, Bosch, etc.
Even though our new place is only about 3 blocks from our old place, we are finding it is even easier for us to get in and out - just up from the parkway we are.
We still have a ways to go - we will be a work in progress for a while,
but stop in anytime to see us.

Black Friday

Lately I seem to find it interesting when a word or phrase out there today brings up a different connotation for me.
Black Friday -
For me, a good Steely Dan song on a very good album, (Katy Lied) 1975 - had absolutely nothing to with going shopping the day after Thanksgiving.

" When black friday comes....
gonna do just what I please...gonna wear no socks & shoes...
with nothin to do but feed all the kangaroos"

I just know when Donald Fagen wrote this he was not at all thinking about a $199 flat screen tv ... or a $399 Whirlpool Washer.. or a $498 Ge Refrigerator... but, alas, this is my world now as I am a retailer making plans for the holiday shopping season, including Black Friday Sales!

Didn't I used to take off the day after Thanksgiving?? I think I did. Have I progressed?

I think my best idea for my Black Friday promotion just hit me - a free Steely Dan Cd for anybody who actually reads this and buys something from us on "Black Friday"!
